Sites for checking the reliability of information
received via the Internet: We have more ways
to communicate with each other than ever before. A message flashed on the Internet
can reach thousands of people in seconds. Unfortunately, this information
may not be verified, or worse, be deliberately and cruelly false. Even a partially heard news
bulletin on television or radio can be misinterpreted in this time of
heightened concern. It is our
responsibility as citizens to be sure of the truthfulness of information
before we act on it or pass it on.
Some excellent Internet sites can be helpful in separating real
information from hoaxes.
Computer virus hoax information:
If you are concerned about something
you hear in the news that you feel may affect you, listen to the news
again carefully to make sure you heard the story correctly, and if need
be, call a local, county or state official for confirmation.
